The most recent episode of greys has been the only episode I have ever literally been so emotionally struck by that i felt mentally hungover the next day.

I knew where the story was headed before I was even half way through the episode and I found myself wanting it to happen to the characters but also not wanting it to happen. I’ve read many many interviews and posts from before and after the episode and It helped me better understand the reasons for why thursdays episode went how it did.

Arizona and Callie have had it so easy in terms of the development of their relationship while other characters during its course have had so many more things that have ripped apart and slowly pieced back together their relationship. If anything, I think Arizonas actions will strengthen their relationship if it survives. She has had to quite literally rebuild herself from the ground up after losing her leg. If that doesn’t take a mental toll on a person, I don’t know what does. But moreover, this incident and its development makes the relationship real. I don’t know many couples that haven’t had major set backs that they’ve had to work through and I think coasting through a relationship with no problems makes it too easy. Granted, there are problems that are too big to overlook, but I think challenges build character and show who you are and represent how one acts when things get tough.

I understand how Arizona feels and I understand how Callie will feel. I understand why it happened. I don’t condone it, but I understand why these characters have done what they have done and who they’ve done it with. Arizona felt something she hadn’t felt again, and it was a sense of control and that someone could see past a flaw that has encompassed for the duration of this season. I think that’s what great television is supposed to do, yank your heart out, step on it, and then somehow, you’re supposed to put it back together and continue with your day.

I’m not saying Lauren and Arizona will become a thing and I’m not saying that Callie and Arizona are over. I’m trying to say that rather than placing blame on Arizona, viewers think about their own lives and empathize with Arizona and consider if they had been through what she has, what her and Callie collectively had, that after awhile you’d possibly lose sight and have a moment of impulse because it was finally something you could control, even if that meant losing control.
